Hey friends, what's new?

Going to keep the preamble short this month as there's lots of links to share in this issue.

Before we jump in, a quick cheers to Ben for the newsletter love on his blog, which is well worth a read if you're not already subscribed. (He's been typing out bangers on there for about two decades and is still rocking Typepad like it's 2003.)

A little reminder too, that you can easily unsubscribe if you don't want these emails any more. But be aware that my fragile ego struggles with rejection. Your innocent little click may have me sobbing uncontrollably into my Mailblast stats...

Remarkable

What the Car?

What the Car?

Game

An absurdly silly game of adventure on Apple Arcade which is full of racing, laughs, and surprises.

Roll, jump, fly and sneeze your way to victory!

Having played What The Golf? to death, I was so pleased that this follow up from Triband is equally as imaginative and bonkers.

Jigsaw Puzzles

Beautiful French-made limited edition jigsaw puzzles. These are bloody lovely and made in collaboration with some really fantastic artists.

I quite fancy buying one, completing it with the family and then framing it.

Useful

Boring Report

Boring Report

News app

Boring Report is an app that uses AI language models to remove sensationalism from the news, while preserving essential information.

Great to see AI being used for signal, not noise.

Libby

Libby

Library reading app

I'm not sure how I'd not heard of this before, but it's brilliant. Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and more from your library directly via your mobile device.

A nice, simple app from Overdrive that opens up library lending.

Maneken

Maneken

Online mockup editor

I've been having an early look at Maneken and it looks like it has a lot of promise. Drop artwork onto photography of devices, billboards and more to create realistically lit, simple mock ups.

What I like about this is it's all in the browser and very light touch. Find out more and join the waitlist below.

Audiopen

Audiopen

AI Transcriptions

Yep I'm at AI saturation point too, but Audiopen deserves a mention. Speak freely while it listens and it will then succinctly and clearly summarise the meaning of what you've just said.

Really quite handy.

Dirk Koy

Dirk Koy

Dirk Koy

Dirk Koy

Artist

Dirk Koy is an artist and filmmaker experimenting with the use of drones, animation and photogrammetry.

I love how he takes often mundane real world objects and scenarios and upends them to create something fantastic and mind-bending.

Go and lose yourself in his Insta for a while.

Watch

Beef

Beef

TV Series

This is a fantastic series from Amy Wong. Entertaining chaos and extremely funny dialogue ensue as two rage-fuelled drivers have a life-affirming feud.

We're watching on Netflix.

Succession

Succession

TV Series

I'm already twitchy about the impending Succession shaped hole in my life. While it seems almost too obvious to add this to the newsletter, apparently some folks have never watched it?

I love you, but you are just not serious people.

Still

Still

Documentary Film

As one of the defining actors of my 80s childhood, I've got a massive soft spot for Michael J. Fox.

He embodied that era so perfectly, and in his prime was seemingly unstoppable.

But his stellar acting career was cut short when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's just before turning 30. This documentary tells that story and is nostalgic, heart-warming and funny and shows him to be the absolute hero of a person you'd hope he'd be.

Listen

Good Lies

Good Lies

Album by Overmono

Love this debut album from Welsh brothers, Tom and Ed Russell. Shades of Bicep in here in places

Some really nice old school syncopations and a stripped back jungle and two-step flavour.

Look Mum No Hands

Look Mum No Hands

EP by Yussh

Yussh is Bristol based producer and DJ, Jen Hartley. This EP pulls together four of her dialled in, atmospheric tracks.

Lots of sub-bass and broken rhythms offset with delicate, intricate pads. Lovely.

Work & Projects

Adept

Adept

Animation and build

Since the last one of these, I've been adding some finesse to the design and build work I've been doing for Adept this year.

Just shipped some 3D animation and a few other little bits of polish to the website. It's been a great freelance project and an absolute pleasure collaborating with Basil Safwat.

Strava Sandbox

Strava Sandbox

Prototyping cycling insights

I've got a loose little side project thing on the go in my free time atm with the unimaginative working title of Strava Sandbox.

I'm a pretty keen cyclist and love Strava. But I also crave a simple one pager to give me a round up of how I'm doing this week, month, year. So I'm building something to that end with the Strava API.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in too, reply to this email or let me know via the form below and I'll share it with you as and when.
